The first dry port in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi Dry Port, will be opened in May 2025 to carry out container handling operations.
The port has received authorization from the Georgian Railway Transport Agency to accept and process cargo transported by rail. Such authorization is required in Georgia for owners of railway infrastructure under regulations effective from January 1, 2025.
Previously, the opening of the dry port was planned for September 2024, then postponed to April 2025.
The Tbilisi Dry Port project is being implemented in three phases. Upon completion of the third phase, the port will be capable of handling an annual container flow of 286,000 TEU, with warehouse space reaching 100,000 m². Regular rail routes will be established between the Tbilisi Dry Port and the seaports of Poti and Batumi. The project also envisions the development of logistics centers, including container yards with an annual throughput capacity of 200,000 TEU and customs warehouses covering 12,300 m².
A co-owner of the Tbilisi Dry Port, located near the airport of Georgia’s capital, is AD Ports Group from the United Arab Emirates. Previously, AD Ports Group invested in facilities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
