Freight trains will reach the seaport in Police for the first time in history. A new railway line no. 437 and a siding will be built. We have signed a contract worth PLN 201 million with the contractor for the investment, which we will carry out jointly with the Police Seaport Authority.
As a result of the investment, the cargo handling capacity of the seaport in Police will increase, and—historically—a rail connection to the port will be made possible. Currently, freight trains operate along the Szczecin – Trzebież Szczeciński line, mainly to the Police Chemia station, owned by Grupa Azoty Zakłady Chemiczne “Police” S.A. After the construction of the new railway section, the long-awaited possibility of direct cargo transport to the port in Police will become a reality. It will be possible to transport a greater volume of raw materials directly as freight train sets. The competitiveness of rail—the environmentally friendly mode of transport—will increase, bringing economic benefits to the region.
“This investment is a breakthrough in the history of the fifth-largest port in Poland. Connecting Police to the rail network means better accessibility, more efficient logistics, increased cargo handling potential, and further development opportunities. By connecting to the Polish and more broadly European transport network, the Port of Police is literally opening up to the world,” said Arkadiusz Marchewka, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure.
As part of the joint investment with the Police Seaport Authority, an electrified railway line (no. 437) will be built, connecting the Police station with the newly constructed freight station Port Morski Police. Railway traffic control equipment will be installed to ensure efficient and safe train movement. A new road viaduct will be constructed over Jasienicka Street. This structure will ensure an adequate level of safety for both railway and road traffic and will improve transportation on provincial road no. 114 (Nowe Warpno – Tanowo).
“Improving freight transport is one of the key pillars of our activity. We are consistently implementing numerous investments and initiatives that translate into faster and more efficient cargo transport. Among other things, we have improved access to routes for freight carriers and increased train speeds across the network, eliminating bottlenecks and restrictions, which significantly speeds up service delivery. Today’s contract is another important step—an investment that will not only increase the attractiveness of connections to ports but will also ease road transport, bringing benefits to the entire logistics sector,” said Marcin Mochocki, Member of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.
The contractor for the project titled “Expansion of the railway infrastructure of line no. 406 and construction of the ‘Port Police’ rail junction/siding with the necessary technical infrastructure as part of the construction of railway line no. 437 to the Police Seaport,” which is being implemented under the project “Creation of Rail Access to the Police Seaport,” will be the company Torpol S.A. The expected completion date for the main construction works is the second quarter of 2027. The construction costs amounting to PLN 201 million gross (PLN 163 million net) will be jointly covered by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. and the Police Seaport Authority, with each party financing the construction of its part of the railway infrastructure. The portion of the project on our side, amounting to PLN 54 million gross (PLN 44 million net), is financed from the state budget.
