11 August 2025 | News

Since the opening of the China-Laos railway line in December 2021, more than 14 million tonnes of cross-border cargo worth over 60 billion yuan (approximately 8.4 billion US dollars) have been transported on it by 6 August 2025.

During the first seven months of 2025, the volume of cross-border freight transport by rail exceeded 3.43 million tonnes, and the total value of goods transported exceeded 15.4 billion yuan, representing increases of 6% and 41% respectively compared to the same period in 2024. Both indicators are record highs in the history of the railway line’s operation.

Currently, the China-Laos railway line, with a total length of approximately 1,035 km, is the most important part of the transport corridor connecting 19 countries, including Thailand and Singapore, and its services are used by companies from Vietnam and Myanmar. The range of goods transported has expanded from an initial 500 items to over 3,600, reflecting stable growth in demand. The main export items from Laos to China are tropical fruits, cassava, rubber and minerals.
