In the first seven months of 2025, freight transport on Chinese railways increased significantly. According to data from China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., the national railway network benefited from both greater utilisation of transport capacity and improved operational processes.
From January to July, over 2.33 billion tonnes of goods were transported, representing an increase of 3.3% compared to the same period last year. The average number of freight wagons loaded was 183,300 per day, which is 4.1% more than in 2024.
Coal deliveries again accounted for a large part of the transport volume, totalling approximately 1.19 billion tonnes. Significant growth was also recorded in other areas: the transport of construction materials increased by 13.6% and the transport of grain by 12.7%.
In addition to domestic transport, international operations also developed positively. During this period, 8,526 train journeys were recorded in traffic with Central Asia, representing a significant increase of 23.2%. On the China-Laos railway line, cross-border freight volume reached 3.44 million tonnes, an increase of 6.4% compared to the previous year.
