Baltic Hub Officially Inaugurates Terminal T3, Strengthening Its Role as a Key Logistics Hub

11 June 2025 | News

Baltic Hub has officially inaugurated the new T3 terminal in Gdańsk, marking a significant milestone in the development of Poland’s maritime economy and strengthening the country’s position in the global supply chain. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of national and local authorities, as well as industry leaders, celebrating this major port investment in the Baltic Sea region.

Terminal T3, located on a 36-hectare site, is expected to reach full operational capacity by the end of 2025. Its launch will increase Baltic Hub’s annual handling capacity from 3 to 4.5 million TEUs, placing the Port of Gdańsk among the largest container terminals in Europe. The key infrastructure includes a 717-meter-long quay with a depth of 17.5 meters, allowing it to accommodate the world’s largest container vessels.

T3 will be equipped with state-of-the-art electrified equipment that will not only enhance operational efficiency but also reduce the terminal’s environmental impact. The equipment includes 20 automated RMG (Rail Mounted Gantry) cranes and seven semi-automated STS (Ship-to-Shore) cranes—among the tallest of their kind in Europe—capable of handling vessels with a capacity of 24,000 TEUs and more. The terminal has already begun initial handling operations as part of its commissioning phase, which is expected to conclude by October 2025.

The T3 project was designed and implemented using a broad range of environmentally friendly solutions—from low-emission construction materials and marine habitat protection to the adoption of green technologies. All terminal equipment is powered by electricity certified to originate from renewable sources, supporting Baltic Hub’s sustainability goals: a 50% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

In 2024, Polish ports handled a record-breaking 3.3 million TEUs, a 10% increase from the previous year. Baltic Hub accounted for over 2.2 million of those TEUs. The launch of T3 significantly enhances the trade potential of Poland and its neighboring countries, responding to growing demand in the Central and Eastern European region. The new terminal will also strengthen intermodal connections between inland European markets and global shipping routes.

Jan Van Mossevelde, President of Baltic Hub, stated during the ceremony: “Today we celebrate the inauguration of T3—one of the largest port investments in the Baltic Sea region. This event not only drives economic growth in Pomerania and Poland but also strengthens our country’s position as a strategic player in global trade. We remain committed to growth, innovation, and investment, working alongside all partners and stakeholders to build one of Europe’s leading container terminal complexes.”

Ong Kim Pong, Group CEO of PSA International, added: “The official opening of Terminal T3 marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter not only for Baltic Hub but for the entire European trade landscape. At PSA, we believe that ports are not isolated pieces of infrastructure but key nodes in a broader ecosystem—and Terminal T3 is a tangible expression of that vision. It represents another step in executing our Node to Network strategy, transforming individual terminals into a smart, globally connected network that supports efficiency, resilience, and sustainability. With its strategic location, modern infrastructure, and growing intermodal connectivity, Baltic Hub plays a vital role in linking the Baltic region with the rest of Europe and the world.”

“At PFR, we are proud to be part of this project, which demonstrates that in partnership with global investors, we are capable of developing infrastructure of global importance—right here in Poland. This modern container port strengthens the resilience of supply chains and opens up access to global markets for Poland and the entire Central and Eastern European region on an unprecedented scale. But Baltic Hub is not just a gateway for trade. Soon, it will also be an element of energy infrastructure, becoming a vital part of our country’s economic security,” added Piotr Matczuk, President of the Management Board of PFR.

“At IFM Investors, we are committed to projects with strong foundations, strategic relevance, and real long-term development potential. Baltic Hub fits our goals perfectly—it is an investment based on trusted partnership and a solid team, with a clear role in the development of Poland and the entire region. The opening of Terminal T3 marks another important stage in the growth of this complex. We are proud to contribute our experience and support the strengthening of Poland’s position as a key link in the regional and global logistics network,” concluded Marcin A. Piasecki, Executive Director at IFM Investors and Member of the Supervisory Board of Baltic Hub.
